  • The EHS cross country teams competed at the Wamego Invitational on Saturday in their second race of the season.
The Wildcats were only able to field a full team at the boys’ varsity level.
El Dorado had a solid showing at one of the toughest courses on their schedule.
“After feeling like we got off to a good start last week at our first meet. I feel like we made progress and took another slight step forward this week. We have had more runners near the front so far this season. We also have a few ‘packs’ of runners who run together and help each other go,” said EHS head coach David Herrs.
Caitlynn Hamilton finished 11th in the JV girls race and was a medalist.
For the varsity girls freshman phenom Jolie Howland grabbed a 6th place finish, medaling and setting a new PR by 18 seconds.
“We seem to be running a little better early in races, and I think we are better at maintaining an appropriate pace during the race,” said Herrs.
The EHS varsity boys were led by John Scott who finished 16th with a PR of 1:04, Jacob Anders finished 17th with a PR of 2 seconds, Breck Towner placed 20th with a PR of 37 seconds, each of the top 3 runners for El Dorado were medalists.
“Our varsity boys were very close to earning a team medal (top 4). We were one point away from 4th, and lost a tie-breaker for 5th. We finished 6th out of 19 as a team at the varsity at the varsity boys level,” said Herrs.
Overall all EHS had 4 medalists and 8 personal records at Wamego.
EHS will have a short turnaround this week travelling to Buhler on Thursday.
