  • Butler Community College of Andover art appreciation instructor Jim Gross attended a memorial tribute for Thomas M. Messer, third director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City on Monday, September 16. Gross was an invited guest.
The program, which took place in the Peter B. Lewis Theater in the museum, featured speakers such as former Guggenheim director Lisa Dennison and current museum director Richard Armstrong. American classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein provided a musical interlude during the program.
"Many Butler students in art appreciation classes with Jim Gross do not realize that not only has Jim been teaching at Butler for about 14 years, but that Jim is an internationally recognized modern artist with a career spanning 30 plus years and exhibitions from Paris, London, Washington DC, New York, Wichita and El Dorado," Butler Dean of Fine Arts and Communication Dr. Jay Moorman said.
