MAIZE - It wasn't after two overtimes and until the final shot in the PKs, but Augusta's boys soccer team got its first win of the season Saturday morning at the Maize South tournament by beating Thomas Moore Prep 4-3 in PKs.
TMP had a 1-0 lead for a large part of the game after scoring a goal about 22 minutes into the match.
It wasn't until the final two minutes before the Orioles answered. Patrick White put the ball in the net after a throw-in by Nate Kroeker to tie the game 1-1.
In the PKs, Augusta scored its first four shots. Oriole goalie Jacob Lowery made a hand save to preserve a one-point lead. The Orioles seemingly won it on their final shot after the ball appeared to have snuck past the top crossbar and bounced back out, but it ruled a deflection.
It didn't matter. TMP was unable to score on the final kick.
Augusta is now 1-3 on the season and will play at Mulvane Tuesday afternoon.
An injury of note: Coach Monty Rowland said that senior Kyler Steinkamp suffered a concussion and will miss about a week while recovering.
