ANDOVER—Augusta's Mackenzie Unrein wasn't the only No. 1 singles player to feel the wrath of Collegiate's Brooke Withrow.

Withrow is a defending state champion who only loss a small hanful of games the entire state tournament last year. So Withrow dominated the field Tuesday at the Andover Central tournament in the season opener, winning all three matches with 8-0 scores.

The Orioles struggled against some pretty tough competition in the round-robin tournament, which also included Andover Central and Maize South. Augusta was winless in three matches for all four flights. Taylor McLallen, the Orioles' No. 2 singles player, and Crystal Johnson and Leanna Higgins in the No. 1 doubles flight were the only ones who managed to win games.

Collegiate took the team title with first-place winners in both No. 1 flights. Central took second place with the other two champions.

The Orioles hosted a junior varsity quad Tuesday, as well. Augusta's No. 2 doubles team of Libby Richey and Hailey Scholl won first place with a 2-1 record. They got a 6-2 win against Circle and a 6-4 win against Collegiate. Their loss was to El Dorado's Renee Thurmon and Sidnie Davidson 6-4.

Augusta's No. 1 doubles team of Erin Hooglugt and Kathryn Hooglugt went 1-2 with a 6-2 win against Collegiate.

Augusta's varsity team will play at Circle this afternoon in a tournament
