Butler Community College will be hosting a special Sept. 11 ceremony Wednesday to commemorate those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 and also recognize the veterans.
Kevin Pickrell, who organized the event, said the idea came about because for the last few years Bugles Across America have held events sounding Taps at the same time the flights hit the twin towers.
“I thought it would be a nice idea to do a ceremony,” Pickrell said.
The ceremony will begin at 8:55 a.m. at the flag pole to the east of the 600 Building, which is at the front entrance to the campus.
The Headliners will open the ceremony by singing the National Anthem. Then at 9:10 a.m. Taps will be played to coincide with Flight 93.
In addition, Butler’s faculty adviser for veterans will speak along with Campus Security Chief James Bryan.
Refreshments will conclude the ceremony, which is open to the public.
