The Butler County Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), RSVP Program, surrounding senior center members and Lincoln Elementary will step up in service to mark the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks for the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Lincoln Elementary students will decorate goodie bags to honor those serving in our community. FGP, RSVP and surrounding senior center members will bake goods and deliver them to first responders.
Foster Grandparent and RSVP Programs will unite to deliver goods to first responders in Augusta and El Dorado. Emergency Medical Services and the Fire, Police and Sheriff’s Department will all be thanked for their service.
Members of the community can also help by donating baked goods and delivering them to the El Dorado Senior Center (located at 210 E. Second) from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today or to the Butler County Department on Aging in Augusta (located at 2101 Dearborn Suite 302) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
“September 11th is a day of history, emotion, and reflection,” said Melody Gault the Program Director of Foster Grandparent and RSVP.
For many Americans it is also a day of service that provides an opportunity to join neighbors and local leaders to rekindle the compassion and unity shown on that day.
September 11th was designated a national day of service by the 2009 Kennedy Serve America Act. The Corporation for National and Community Service leads the annual event, working with MyGoodDeed and hundreds of nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, and schools and businesses nationwide.
This year’s RSVP and Foster Grandparent projects will enlist volunteers in delivering meals, shopping for homebound seniors, veterans serving veterans activities, mentoring children in schools and helping with the Safehouse and Birthline just to name a few.
The Corporation for National and Community Service is a federal agency that engages more than five million Americans in service each year through Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and other programs; improves communities through the Social Innovation Fund; and leads President Obama's national call to service initiative, United We Serve.
