After opening the season with two wins, the Butler football team moved up one spot to fourth in the first NJCAA regular season football poll, which was released today.
Butler received 119 votes in this week's poll, just 19 behind top-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast. With the #4 ranking, the Grizzlies (2-0 overall, 1-0 KJCCC) has now been ranked in the NJCAA top 10 in 143 consecutive polls.
Butler was able to jump to the fourth spot thanks to unranked Georgia Military knocking off No. 2 Snow (Utah) 35-17 on Saturday. Snow's loss also allowed Navarro (TX) and Iowa Western to move up to second and third, respectively. The NJCAA preseason favorite, Mississippi Gulf Coast, remained atop the poll with 138 votes and six first-place votes. Navarro received the other three first-place votes.
Other KJCCC schools in the poll this week are Garden City (2-0) and Hutchinson (1-1). Garden City jumped five spots from 17th to 12th, while Hutchinson fell from sixth to 13th after losing a 41-16 contest to Navarro (Texas). Dodge City, which fell 44-14 in the season opener to Butler, received votes but did not crack the top 20 poll.
Butler will travel to Fort Scott (0-2 overall, 0-1 KJCCC) this Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest at Frary Field.
