El Dorado citizens have been benefiting from the Service Line Warranty Program that began to be offered in El Dorado in 2012.
To date, the company has collected more than $68,000 in warranty premiums, and they have spent more than $100,000 fixing sewer service lines in El Dorado. Currently, there are 624 people enrolled for the external sewer line warranty and 291 for the external water line warranty. Looking at claims, there have been 158 for the sewer and six for water lines.
One unique situation arose when an elderly citizen called the city a while back with a complaint about the program. The citizen had signed up for the program in December 2012 and recently had a blockage on his sewer line. When city staff called the company, they found the man had signed up for the water line warranty, not sewer.
Kurt Bookout, public utilities director, talked to the city’s SLWP representative and explained the situation.
They switched the man over to sewer coverage and sent a local plumber out and replaced his sewer line at a cost of $2,700 to themselves.
“They continue to live up to their reputation,” Bookout said, adding that he as heard no other complaints of the program.
In addition to the good customer service, the city has received royalties in the amount of $3,471 in 2012 and $3,352 to date this year.
