  • It’s time to lace up those running shoes once again. Partners In Education Foundation is hosting its annual Pumpkin PIE 5K trail Run Sept. 14.
The event will again return to Walters’ Pumpkin Patch, located at 1001 Hwy 77, north of El Dorado.
In addition to the run, this year some new family fun events have been added.
“We wanted to get more families and kids involved and even if they don’t come and do the trail run, if they want to do the walk, they can take their time and just enjoy the scenery and take part in the contests if they want to enter those,” said Judy Smith, PIE director
Those events will include a PIE eating contest, which costs $3 for non-runners; a pumpkin derby contest; and a hot dog lunch by the Red Devil Chefs free for runners and $5 for non runners. There is no age limit for any of the contests, which will be held after the races. Awards also will immediately follow the race. Timing for the event is provided by Oz Endurance.
Early registration for the run is Sept. 2. Those with early registration for the 5K will be guaranteed a t-shirt. For those in the 1 mile there is an extra charge for the shirt.
The events will get underway at 8 a.m. with registration for the 5K running until 8:45 and the race starting at 9 a.m. Registration for this run is $30 before Sept. 2 and $35 through race day. Students in grades in kindergarten through 12th grade are half price.
Registration for the 1 mile will also be from 8 a.m. to 8:45 and the race will start at 9:45. The cost for this race is $5.
Prizes for the 5K for overall top male and female will be $100 for first place and a certificate for shoes; second place is $50; third place is $25; and medals will be given to the top three male and female finishers per age bracket. Prizes for the 1 mile will be awarded by participant drawing.
People can register at www.eldoradoschools.org/local/PIEfoundation or pick up a registration form at the USD 490 District Office.
