Helen Mae “McElroy” Calvin, 75, of Latham, died on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at HCA Wesley Medical Center. There will be no funeral services.
She was born on Oct. 8, 1937 in Beaumont, the daughter of William Earl and Gretchen (Stief) McElroy. Helen graduated from Leon High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Beaumont Christian Church, and enjoyed quilting and antiquing. She especially enjoyed taking care of her family.
On Nov. 16, 1957, she and Howard Calvin were married in Miami, Okla.
Those she leaves including her husband, Howard Wayne Calvin, are: children, Bret W. Calvin, and Gretchen R. Hays and husband Paul; a grandson, Matthew Hays; and two brothers, Henry McElroy of Beaumon and Lee McElroy, Rogers, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gretchen and William McElroy, and siblings, William and Robert McElroy, Gretchen McElroy, Emma Carter and Betty Stevenson.
The family said although she lived most of her life in Latham, she was born in Beaumont and was damn proud of it.
