What those involved report to be an accident led to a shooting in Potwin Sunday afternoon.
The Butler County Sheriff's office received a call through 911 at approximately 3:46 p.m. of a shooting at 224 N. Holmes St. in Potwin, according to Tony Wilhite, undersheriff.
According to the report a 31-year-old woman shot her 49-year-old husband in the shoulder.
A neighbor made the original call, then the shooter called 911 to report she had shot her husband.
Wilhite said she received instruction on first aid until medical personnel could arrive. When Sheriff's Deputies arrived, they did find the woman providing first aid to her husband.
The victim received what was believed to be a single gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was flown to Wesley Medical Center via air ambulance in critical condition. After being treated by physicians at Wesley, the victim was able to make a statement to a Sheriff's detective. His initial statement matches that of his wife's in that he reports it to be an accident.
There are 4 children in the home: 13, 9, 6,and 4 years of age. The children were not harmed.
This matter is still under investigation. At this time, the names of the shooter and victim are not being released.
