  • The teams have reported to campus, which means fall sports season is just around the corner for the Butler Grizzlies.
People can catch all four of Butler’s fall sports teams in action in El Dorado in the coming days.
The first team to go “live” in front of the fans will be the football team. The Grizzlies, ranked 5th in the NJCAA preseason poll that was released today, face off in a scrimmage against Ellsworth (Iowa) at 9:15 a.m. Thursday morning.
The team will then have an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday at approximately 9:30 a.m.
The volleyball team will host its traditional preseason tournament on Saturday. Butler will play Barton at 9 a.m., Cloud at 11 a.m., Colby at 1 p.m. and Fort Scott at 4 p.m.
The cross country teams will also be in action on Saturday, running as a part of the Butler Alumni Fun Run/Walk.
This will be the pre-season time trials for the team but will be a part of a 5K that is open to the public.
Entry fee is $30 in advance if you register online at www.butlergrizzlies.com or $35 the day of the event.
Runners can arrive at 4 p.m. with the event starting at 5 p.m. and a hamburger feed to follow (free for race registrants, $10 for all others).
Registrants will also receive an Alumni Fun Run t-shirt.
Subway, the City of El Dorado and Wartick Insurance are sponsoring the event.
Then on Monday, the Butler soccer team will play a home scrimmage, facing off against Emporia State JV at 7 p.m. at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
The game was originally scheduled to be played in Emporia, but has been moved to El Dorado.
Tickets for Butler football and other fall sports will be coming in the mail shortly.
Look for a delivery to your mailbox this weekend or early next week.
For those who haven’t ordered season tickets yet, call the Athletic Office at 322-3202.
Tickets will also go for sale online later this week.
The first home game is Butler soccer versus fellow national power Iowa Western at 7 p.m. on Aug. 23 at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex
Another exciting development to look forward to is the announcement of post-game fireworks for the first Butler football game on Aug. 24.
The fireworks are sponsored by Cox Communications.
