  • Concert in the Barn is inviting the public to attend a special Evening Under the Tent free Outdoor Barbecue Dinner & Benefit Concert to be held Saturday at 9221 N 143rd St. East, Benton.
Dinner will be served starting at 6 p.m., with a free hayrack ride at 6:30 and a concert at 7 with live music featuring Dean Hopkins and Debbie Norman with their band, ISAIAH; along with Special Guests “Across the Pond” and “Andy Newbrey and the Electro-Bluesy Grass Band.” The concert will also feature opening act Lonnie Dreyer.
Donations received from the Concert are to benefit the Kid-n-Calf Mentoring Program for at-risk youth, in its seventh season at the property.
The program has now mentored more than 100 participants from surrounding communities. Each summer, youth are given calves of their very own, which are kept and cared for at Gospel of Grace Ministries’ 80-acre farm near Benton, home to the Kid-n-Calf program.
Through weekly visits, program participants learn to bottle-feed, groom, care for and interact with their calves. Each week motivational speakers are brought in to encourage and help instruct youth in how to fulfill their God-given purpose in life and succeed in overcoming life’s difficult challenges and conflicts, both personal inner-conflict, and outer-conflict with others. Each weekly visit also includes group recreational activities.
At the end of each season, the monies brought from the sale of calves goes entirely into a Betterment Fund to be divided equally by that year’s program participants for future needs such as tuition, braces, eyeglasses, music lessons, sports fees, and other items that better each child’s life.
Dean Hopkins and Debbie Norman, along with fellow Board Member Sid Nattier, co-founded Gospel of Grace Ministries in 2001 as a non-denominational community outreach non-profit organization and have watched as God has grown a ministry which truly reaches out into surrounding communities through their Kid-n-Calf Mentoring Program and Concert in the Barn free community concert series.
For the past five years, the Concert in the Barn series has enjoyed holding free community concerts at their location near Benton and love sharing their music to packed audiences the second Saturday night of each month through November.
Concerts feature the music of Hopkins, Norman and their band Isaiah, as well as special guest artists each month. Hopkins is a Nashville recording artist who previously traveled the country for 13 years as a part of the Ark Valley Boys. He has opened for such country and gospel acts as Steve Wariner, Roy Clark, Louise Mandrell, Porter Wagoner, Pat Boone, Jerry Reed, Ed Bruce, JD Sumner & the Stamps, Jerry Clower, Jeff & Sherri Easter and Dallas Holm to list a few.
Norman is a singer/songwriter whose powerfully rich vocals have reached out to touch hearts and encourage listeners across the Midwest for years. Audiences love this group’s genuine heart and humor as they share the gospel and enjoy performing a variety of country, gospel and oldies music.

Everyone is invited to bring a lawn chair and come out for an enjoyable evening of fun, fellowship and entertainment to benefit a great cause, the Kid-n-Calf Mentoring Program.
