  • The Walnut Valley Quilters Guild will meet at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12, at the First United Methodist Church, 2448 Edgemont Dr., Arkansas City.
The guest speaker for both meetings is Carmen Gard, originally from Great Bend. The title of her presentation is “You Don’t Have To Be Crazy To Crazy Quilt.”
Gard grew up on a farm and learned her sewing skills at a very early age. She has been a County and State Fair Judge for over 40 years with 4-H clothing construction and Fashion Revue.
Gard’s career as an educator includes Roosevelt Jr. High in Great Bend, Wichita Heights and Bishop Carroll High Schools in Wichita. She also has been in social work with the Wichita Childrens Home.
She is now retired and loves to show her quilts, travel and family activities.
The public is invited to attend this meeting. It is open to anyone who has an interest in quilts. Their membership is approximately 150 people.
