The public is invited to attend From the Flint Hills of Kansas to the White House, a celebration of memories by friends of Stanley and Madelyn Dunham, grandparents of President Barack Obama, and other stories of Butler County’s 1930-40s history.
Madelyn (Payne) Dunham spent most of her childhood living in Augusta, attended Garfield Elementary and graduated from Augusta High School in 1940.
The special event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Augusta’s Garfield Elementary School, 1053 Osage.
Special guests will be oral history narrators presented by President Obama’s Kansas Heritage Project; Butler County citizens documenting the President’s Kansas legacy.
Partners are Kansas Humanities Council, Central Kansas Community Foundation, Augusta Historical Society, Butler County History Center, Butler Community College, Wichita State University History Department, Augusta Public Schools, and El Dorado Public Schools.
