Ismail Farid, an accomplished professional musician from Singapore, will be performing a free concert at the Music Scene in Andover on Saturday, August 17.
Farid along with his daughter, Eva Farid, and student, Bronte Young will perform the concert in the Music Scene store starting at 5:30 p.m. and lasting 45 minutes to an hour.
Steve Shook, from the Music Scene, said he feels people from Andover and the surrounding area will really enjoy the free concert.
Farid, a professional musician since the age of 20, is looking forward to the concert.
"I think the residents might really like it. It will be something different," he said.
Now living in Winfield, Farid is the Assistant Director of Orchestra with USD 465 in Winfield and assistant to the Southwestern College Youth Symphony.
Farid, along with his daughter and student, will be performing jazz standards, oldies, and some traditional tunes at the performance. He will be on piano and vocals, his daughter Eva will be on violin and Young will be on cello.
Shook and Farid met in April. The two began talking and Shook said he needed another string instructor at the Music Scene.One thing led to another, and Farid has begun instructing one day a week at the Music Scene and the idea of this concert was born.
Classically trained, Farid has been playing the piano six the age of 6. He stopped playing classical at the age of 16 and started play jazz and pop.
"I worked with some really good musicians who were willing to teach me," he said.
He started his professional career as a restaurant pianist.
In Singapore, he worked in restaurants and hotels before making the move to the United States in 2000. He lived for two years in Florida before making his way to Winfield.
