  • Todd Patterson has enjoyed much success at the Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo.
On that track, he claimed his 12th National Event title at the 34th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals this past weekend, July 19 through 21.
Four of those 12 event wins have been at Bandimere Speedway; including the first National Event win of his career. Patterson claimed those previous three wins in 1986, 1990 and 1997.
Patterson, who has lived in Augusta his whole life, has been racing for 30 years. His father, Allan Patterson, started his business Patterson Racing Inc., in 1979 on Walnut Street in Augusta, and Todd joined in 1984.
This most recent win is part of the Mellow Yellow championship drag racing series.
After qualifying in the No. 3 spot in Competition Eliminator, Patterson went on to drive through four rounds of competition to claim the win with his 400 CI GM Splayed Valve Patterson Powered A/SMA Chevy Cobalt with a final round time of 8.520 ET @ 160.04 MPH.
Todd knew this series of rounds would be pivotal.
"Allan Rheinhart, announcer for NHRA, told me all four of the semi-finalist had won this event at one time. I knew that meant I had to be on top of my game driving my best and have good reaction times to claim the win," Todd said. "At this altitude it's a struggle to make a heavier Super Modified Car like the Cobalt run well. It takes a lot of preparation and correct tuning calls to overcome that and I believe that's what we did to get to the winner's circle!"
Todd also drove an impressive -1.091 under the index to pick up the No. 1 qualifier spot in Stock Eliminator in the 427 CI Patterson Powered COPO Camaro. Todd went on to claim the CC/SA class win.
