Eric Schuermann tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout Tuesday as El Dorado blanked Derby 2-0.
The game, originally slated for El Dorado's McDonald Stadium, was played at Derby. The grounds were too wet at McDonald.
Schuermann's gem is the second complete-game shutout this season for the Broncos. Chance Cotton turned in a complete-game shutout against Dodge City on June 22.
Schuermann struck out seven, walked one and hit one. He allowed a double to Jason McMurray, the second batter of the game. He struck out the next two batters, stranding McMurray at second.
His only trouble came in the fifth. With one out, Cody Robinson walked and Jake Ward singled, putting runners at second and third with one out. He got Kyle Bilbray to pop out to Wade Stramp at first base and Bob Arens to ground out to end the threat.
Schuermann did not allow a Derby baserunner to third base.
He retired 14 of the last 15 batters he faced and that one reached on an error.
Neither team scored until the sixth.
John Coen led off the sixth with a walk. Christian Cox sacrificed him to second. Thomas Clay popped up fo fhe second out. Clayton Taylor hammered a double to right, scoring Coen.
In the eighth, Coby Roming singled and advanced to second on Coen's infield grounder. Cox popped up for the second out but Clay shot a single to left, scoring Roming.
The victory moves El Dorado (18-13) to within a game of second place Wellington (19-12).
