  • It was a frustrating thee-game series at Liberal for the El Dorado Broncos last weekend.
The Broncos took the first game 8-7 in 10 innings but lost the last two 3-2 and 4-2.
The highlight was a bit of history by Tyler Ware and Clayton Taylor.
In Friday's 19-hit attack, Ware collected six hits and Taylor had five. Ware's six hits is the second-most in a game since 1987 when the El Dorado-Wichita Broncos began. The most hits was by Ryan Callaway on July 31, 1999. It also came against Liberal.
Taylor went 5 for 5. Until Friday, just nine Broncos had collected five for more hits in a s game. Now, with Ware and Taylor added, there are 11.
In Friday's game, the Broncos stranded 20 baserunners, 14 in scoring position.
El Dorado outhit Liberal 10-6 in Saturday's game but lost in the bottom of the ninth.
The losses, coupled with Wellington's three-game sweep of last-place Dodge City, drops the Broncos out of second place. El Dorado is 17-13 and Wellington is 19-12. The teams will meet twice more this season, including Monday night at McDonald Stadium, if the grounds are dry enough.
Hays took two of three from Derby and reduced its magic number for clinching the Jayhawk League to two. Any combination of Wellington losses and Hays wins totalling two gives Hays the title.
Sunday's loss eliminated El Dorado from title contention.
El Dorado manager Chad Gerwick was ejected from Friday's and Sunday's game. On Sunday, he piled dirt on home plate before being tossed. This brought a roar of approval from the Liberal crowd.
