Thomas Clay hit a three-run homer and five El Dorado pitchers did not allow an earned run as the Broncos defeated the Kansas Cannons 6-3 Tuesday night at McDonald Stadium.
The Broncos will face the Newton Rebels on Wednesday night at McDonald Stadium.
There were only three errors in the game, but they made all but one run unearned.
Cannons shortstop Kyle Demeritt made the first error on a ground ball by El Dorado's Mikel Mucha in the fourth. Todd Ritchie later walked and both scored on John Coen's single.
The only earned run of the game came in the fifth when Clayton Taylor singled and later scored on Wade Stramp's single.
In the sixth, Christian Cox led off by reaching on an error by Cannons second baseman J. C. Sturgeon. Ritchie later was safe on a fielder's choice. Then, with two outs, Clay hit a three-run shot over the left-field fense.
Josh Moore went four innings, pitching out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fourth. Jeremy McGowan went the fifth and sixth and didn't allow a baserunner. Cox pitched a 1-2-3 seventh, striking out two. Derek Miller pitched the eighth and allowed three runs but all were unearned when Clay dropped a flyball in left.
Joe Smidt pitched the ninth to earn the save, striking out two.
