  • Christian Cox opened the bottom of the ninth with a triple and scored the winning run on an infield single by Thomas Clay to help El Dorado nip the Kansas Canson 5-4 Friday night at McDonald Stadium.
Cox was on base in all four plate appearances with two singles, a triple and a walk.
He scored the Broncos first run by singlling in the third and coming home on John Coen's single.
It was a game of missed opportunities for El Dorado. The Broncos scored just twice in the fourth. Danny Droll led off with a single and Clayton Taylor doubled, putting runners at second and third. After a strikout, Jake Straub's infield out scored Droll. A walk and a single loaded the bases for Cox, who walked on a 3-2 pitch. But Coen struck out to end the inning. The Broncos got a double, two singles, two wals and just two runs.
In the third, El Dorado had runners on first and second with none out. Coby Roming was thrown out trying to steal third. Coen's single drove in Cox, but Clay hit into a double play to end the inning.
In the seventh, the Broncos had two doubles (Roming and Droll), a single (Cox) and a walk (Coen), but got only one run. Roming was thrown out at the plate, trying to score on a pitch that bounced off the backstop.
Tyler Ward opened the bottom of the eighth with a double but was stranded at third.
