Jeremy McGowan held Hays to one run in 6 1/3 innings as El Dorado won a crucial 4-2 victory over the Larks at McDonald Stadium on Wednesday night.
After suffering two straight blowout losses, the Broncos struck for three runs in the third inning.
The victory moves El Dorado to within one game of first place behind Hays. El Dorado is 16-11 and Hays is 16-9.
Liberal improved to 12-13 with a victory over Wellington (14-12). Derby dropped to 11-16 with a loss to Dodge City (8-16).
Todd Ritchie and John Coen hit back-to-back singles in the third.
Thomas Clay's single loaded the bases with one out. Tyler Ware hit a two-run single, scoring Ritchie and Coen. Clayton Taylor's two-out single scored Ware with the third run.
Patrick Esposito opened the seventh with a single and went to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Christian Cox was hit by a pitch.Both advanced on a wild pitch. Then, Esposito scored on a wild pitch.
McGowan didn't allow a hit for five innings. Cody Daily broke up the no-hitter with a single leading off the sixth.
The final game of the series was cancelled due to early morning showers leading to wet field conditions at game time.
The game will be made up if it is necessary in the standings.
