A guard at the El Dorado Correctional Facility is undergoing testing at Wesley Medical Center after a fall at the facility this morning.
According to EDCF Capt. Dale Call, at around 10:30 Friday morning, the Sally Port operator had radioed for the officer in Tower One, which is in the front parking lot, to operate the gate. When the officer didn't respond, the Sally Port officer contacted someone in the control center to make contact with the tower. Call said when that failed, they called for the response team to check on him.
"He had fallen from the top level to the second level inside the tower," Call said.
That distance is about 10 feet or a little more.
The guard was conscious and awake and indicated that he had fallen from the above level, so they did not move him and called EMS, which assisted in evacuating him from the tower. The guard was taken to Wesley Medical Center where they were conducting tests.
Call said they do not know what caused the fall, but are investigating the incident.
