ANDOVER—Augusta jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but Andover Central rallied to tie the game 6-6 in the opener of Tuesday's Legion baseball doubleheader.

Going into the final inning, coach Doug Jefferson collected the Orioles in a huddle and calmly got them refocused.

It paid off. Preston Bevan led off the final inning with a walk, stole second base, then advanced to third on a grounder by Kade Trebbe. Kolton Schenker was intentionally walked, then stole second.

That left two runners on for Greg Slaton, who got a hold of a pitch and blooped it over the infield for an RBI base hit. Ian Rogers later drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk. In the bottom of the inning, Rogers got a quick three outs to preserve an 8-6 Oriole win.

Augusta had an early 2-0 lead in Game 2, but Central's offense woke up and took a 6-2 lead after two innings and a 13-3 lead as the Jaguars managed to get the split.

The two games were the final ones of the season. The Legion Zone tournament will be played Monday, July 15 through 17.
