Guy D. Harris, 69, of Wichita, died July 3, 2013 at Wesley Medical Center. The celebration of his life will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday July 12, 2013 at the First Christian Church El Dorado.
Guy was born July 5, 1943 in Ft. Wayne, Ind. He came to El Dorado as a small child. He attended school and graduated with the Class of 1961. He also received a degree from Washburn University. Guy served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army reserves. On Sept. 16, 1967 he was united in marriage to Linda Phares in El Dorado. He was a retired Vice President of First Securities Company.
He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and Alpha Delta Fraternity.
He played golf on the El Dorado High School and Washburn University golf teams. He was a longtime volunteer with the Wichita Open Golf Tournament (Air Capital Classic). He loved golf, watching old movies, golf, keeping in touch with friends and classmates, and of course golf.
He was very instrumental in planning for high school reunions and served as Master of Ceremonies at his 50th reunion.
Surviving family include his wife, Linda; sons, Chad of El Dorado and Brent of Wichita; granddaughter, Mya of Wichita; mother in law, Nina Phares of El Dorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jeanette Harris, and father-in-law Wilford Phares.
A memorial has been established with the Wichita Air Capital Classic (Wichita Open). Contributions may be sent to the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home who is assisting with their arrangements.
