  • The Augusta City Council got an initial look at the conceptual designs for a project to expand South Ohio Street.
The scope of the project would go from Main St. to the new Kelly and Ohio intersection.
The governing body could be excused if they had a little sticker shock from the $3.4 million price tag on the 4,000 foot project.
But most on the council agreed that going forward with plans to expand from a 35-foot wide two-lane road to a 38-foot wide three-lane road was the best choice for the city.
“I think with the investment we have made at Kelly and Ohio, we would want a three-lane road to the south to handle the additional traffic,” Mayor Kristey Williams said.
Water and storm sewer lines as well as utility pole relocation will complicate this project and add to the expense.
The work on the Kelly and Ohio intersection is on track to finish on time, with the intersection opening back up in the first week of August.
