Students in the USD 490 Summer Academy learned some tips to stay safe this summer during a special assembly to conclude the summer school classes last week.
USD 490 School Resource Officer Tyson Nielsen talked to the students about bicycle safety, as well as tips to stay safe on inline skates and scooters.
He talked about helmets, laws relating to the bicycles and skates, and safety tips.
Nielsen told the students since 1986, wearing bicycle helmets had decreased brain injuries by 88 percent.
Following the presentation, six students were selected to receive a new bicycle helmet.
The helmets had been donated by the Roger Joyce family. Roger was killed when hit by a car while riding his bicycle last year. It is their goal to promote bicycle safety as much as possible.
