  • El Dorado's relief corps fell apart Wednesday night at Welllington for one of the few times this season.
Eric Schuermann went six innings, allowing three runs and five hits.
Joe Smidt, one of the most relieble relievers, was touched for three runs. At one point he was hit for three straight hits, two of them doubles. Chayse Gulzow relieved and allowed another run.
The Broncos continue to cling to second place, dropping to 9-8. Derby and Wellington, which square off Thursday night, are 8-9. Hays leads at 13-3. Liberal is 6-10 and Dodge City, El Dorado's weekend opponent, is 5-10.
John Coan was one of the few bright spots for El Dorado on Wednesday night, going 3 for 4 and driving in a run.
David Parratt drove in the other run with a single.
It was not a good game for the Bronocs. Coan was thrown out at the plate. With two men on and none out, Christian Cox was picked off second by Wellington catcher T.C. Mark.
