Christian Cox pitched six innings, allowing just one earned run; and the Broncos rallied for a five-run third in beating Derby 8-5 Monday night at McDonald Stadium.
After suffering their worst loss of the season (15-4 to Dodge City on Sunday), the Broncos bounced back to wipe out a 3-0 deficit.
Coby Roming and John Coen opened the third with back-to-back singles.Todd Ritchie followed with another single, but Trever Ezell hit into a double play with Roming scoring.
Clayton Taylor followed with another single, scoring Coen. Danny Droll hit was appeared to be a inning-ending groundout, but Derby shortstop Jason McMurray left the ball on the ground for an error. Tyler Ware's single drove in Taylor; and when Derby centerfielder Kyle Bilbrey booted the ball, Droll scored. Patrick Esposito's single drove in Ware with the fifth run.
Cox was touched for three runs in the first, as two were unearned.He continually pitched out of jams. He left the bases loaded in the first. In the second, Cox fielded a grounder and threw out the runner trying to go to third. He left a runner at second in the third and second and third in the third. He got a 1-2-3 fifth, but left runners on second and third in the sixth.
