The National Weather Service has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH that covers most of the state of Kansas, including Butler County. We have also been upgraded from a Slight Risk area to a Moderate Risk area for severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has cautioned that damaging winds gusts, some up to 90 mph, and large hail up to 3 inches in diameter could be possible within the watch area. They even see a small chance for a few tornadoes. The time frame for storm initiation is still expected to be late afternoon to early evening, with central Kansas setting up to take the initial blows. Forecasters expect the severe threat to diminish by midnight.
