Grace Allene Archer, 100, of Winfield,went home to be with her Lord in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 22, 2013.
Born on June 14, 1913 in Bloomington Township, Butler County, she was the daughter of Charles F. and Clara E. (Allen) Prigmore. She attended schools in Wichita and Augusta before graduating from Winfield High School in 1932. Allene later attended Carver Chiropractic College in Oklahoma City, Okla., graduating in 1937. She was a 1940 graduate of Franklin Business School in Wichita.
She was employed at Beech Aircraft in Wichita from 1941 to 1944. After living in McPherson, Kansas she was united in marriage to Dale B. Archer on January 13, 1945 in McPherson. The couple made their home on a farm in the Tisdale area. She was employed at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for two years where she worked as a nurse and psychiatric aide. Mr. Archer preceded her in death on June 18, 2008.
Allene helped her children in 4-H work and assisted teaching a few classes in cooking and sewing. She taught both of her daughters to sew at a very young age for which they have used all their lives with enjoyment and great appreciation. In addition to being an accomplished seamstress, she loved to write and sing. She was a member of the Tisdale United Methodist Church and was involved in Bible studies and was a member of the WCTU.
Her family includes: her sons, Keith Archer and wife Charlene of Winfield; and Merle Archer and wife Mickey of Winfield; daughters: Alice Rhodes and husband Virgil of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Lois Kelley and husband Kenneth of Winfield; brother: Eldon Prigmore of Victorville, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne and Phillip Prigmore and her sister, Carol Prigmore.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Tisdale United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday and family will greet friends from 6 to 8.
A memorial has been established in Mrs. Archer’s name for the Tisdale United Methodist Church/Gym Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
