Three El Dorado pitchers did not give up an earned run to help the Broncos defeat host Wellington 4-1 Sunday in the Jayhawk League opener for both teams.
Chance Cotton went six innings, three hits and an unearned run. Joe Smidt went two innings, retiring six straight batters. Derek Miller pitched the ninth to get the save, facing just three batters with a strikeout.
The Broncos struck for two runs in the first when Thomas Clay opened with a double and Christian Cox followed with a single to put runners at first and third.
Jose Rosado, who sparkled at shortstop with six assists, was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Tyler hit into a double play, scoring Clay. Cox scored on a wild pitch.
In the third, Cox hit a two-out single and eventually scored on a wild throw by Heat second baseman Nick Billinger.
Wellington scored in the third when Kirk Rocha reached on a error by Broncos third baseman Trevor Ezell.He scored when T.C.Mark struck out but reached first base on a wild pitch.
Oddly, the Broncos scored four runs but had no RBI. There was no RBI on Wellington's run, either.
The Broncos played host to Derby Monday at McDonald Stadium, then they will be on the road at Wellington Wednesday.
