Thunderstorm chances should dwindle by around lunchtime today, leaving hot and sunny conditions for the rest of the day. Expect Mother Nature's furnace to be turned up to "high" for the next few days. Our temps should top out right around 100 degrees each day, with heat indices soaring past the triple-digit mark. Today we are forecasted to see heat indices just over 100 degrees. Wednesday and Thursday will top that with a steamy 104-105 degree heat index predicted. Today we'll have those typical gusty Kansas winds to take some of the edge off of the heat (winds to 25 mph and gusts to 35). That little bit of relief will taper off during the overnight hours tonight, though, leaving just a light breeze to stir the sauna the following couple of days. Please remember that as the temperatures rise, so does your risk of suffering a heat-related emergency. Anyone who will be working outside, especially doing strenuous work, should make every attempt to schedule the bulk of that activity during the cooler parts of the day. While working in the heat, take plenty of breaks out of the sun, stay very well hydrated, and get in out of the heat as soon as possible. Heat stroke is a life-threatening medical emergency and needs to be taken seriously. Please take all the necessary precautions to keep things from going that far!
