As part of the Augusta Arts Council's 2013 Summer Art Camp, one of the projects is the creation of "Augusta in Mosaic" to be displayed in the City Council meeting room at City Hall. Fifteen students, fifth grade through high school, and instructors Johnna Smith and Audra Shelite, have been working on the project since June 10th. The panels were being placed on the walls Tuesday and the project is expected to be complete by the end of the week.
The colorful glass and tile design incorporates some prominent Augusta images.
"We came up with the basic design, but the kids have been quick to offer suggestions and ideas, too," Smith advised.
All the materials were generously donated by The Showroom, Mark McCollom, Star Lumber, and Village Decorative.
Sponsors of the Summer Art Camp are White Eagle Credit Union, Vornado Air, LLC, Cami Baker & Associates, South Central Community Foundation, and Walmart.
