Bobby R. Abplanalp, 83, of North Newton, died Tuesday (June 18, 2013) at the Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1929 in Newton, the son of Walter and Hattie Goodrich Abplanalp. He served in the U.S. Navy. Bobby was married to Eleanor Shockley on Jan. 30, 1953 in Potwin.
Bobby had worked at K N Energy for several years before retiring in 1992. They moved to Newton in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of the home in North Newton; sons, Steven and his wife Jill of Attica, Kan., and Terry of Lakin, Kan.; daughter, Cindy Webster and husband Larry of McPherson; sisters, Maxine Harris of Denver, Colo., Lois Ingram of Tampa, Fla., and Bernice Harvey of Newton; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and eight step-great grandchildren.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mable Ekholm.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at the First United Methodist in Newton.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 1 til 8 p.m. where the family will receive friends between 7 and 8.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS.
