  • Robert Joseph Patterson, 89, of Leon, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 in Augusta.

  • Robert Joseph Patterson, 89, of Leon, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 in Augusta. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Leon Methodist Church, Leon. Burial will follow at Leon Cemetery, Leon. Robert was born in El Dorado on March 12, 1924, to the late Edith (Lindly) and Joseph Patterson. He graduated from Leon High School and joined the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. Robert returned from the service and began farming and ranching. He met Nita Jane (Davis) before Christmas in 1946 and on Sep. 25, 1948 in Carrier, Okla., they were married. In December of 1952 Dennis was born. Robert was a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. Elks, National Cattleman’s Association, Joppa Masonic Lodge in Leon, Wichita Consistory, and Midian Shrine. He was elected to the Butler County Commission in 1972. He received a Federal Land Bank Award in 1995 for conservation. Robert is survived by his wife, Nita of Leon; son, Dennis Patterson of Leon; brother, David Patterson of Derby; sister, Susan Pangrac and husband Duane of Augusta; a brother, Phillip Patterson and wife Betty of Oregon; and grandchildren, Megan, Wade and Mallory Patterson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margie Jo Patterson. Memorial donations may be made to Leon Methodist Church or the Leon Senior Center.
