  • Towanda Public Library will be hosting a special group discussion from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday.
Sherlock Holmes: genius, madman, addict, detective.  One of the truly great characters from literature, and so persistent in the minds and hearts of his readers who even when the author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, tried to kill him off, he ended up bringing Holmes back.  Turned out, even Doyle’s mother complained when Sherlock died!
Through the ages, there have been stage adaptations, movie versions, television versions, comic books and even board game adaptations of the Holmes canon.  On June 17, they'll take a look at one of the pivotal moments in the Holmes history, and some of the various ways its been adapted, as well as discussing just what it is that makes Sherlock Holmes so appealing.
Whether you’re a long-time fan of Holmes and Watson, and you complain about the portrayals of Irene Adler while comparing the Gilette and Rathbone performances… or if you’re only familiar with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law in the recent movie adaptation… or even if you’ve only ever wondered what all this Sherlock Holmes fuss is about, it’s certain to be an interesting discussion.
Towanda Public Library is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.  For more information, visit their Web site at http://towandalibrary.info, or find them on Facebook.
