  • An Oklahoma man died in a two-vehicle accident in Butler County on June 12, according to Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet.
Herzet said officers received the call of an injury accident at 10:10 p.m. in the area of U.S. 400 and mile marker 318, which is close to the Butler-Greenwood County line. He said in route it turned out to be a vehicle and a semi.
"Upon arriving, deputies did locate a semi and a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis with an Oklahoma tag," he said.
Officers began checking for injuries and found the driver of the Grand Marquis, Glen C. Hereden, 80, of Collinsville, Okla., who was deceased. The driver of the 2008 Freightliner, John W. Leseberg, 49, of Murrieta, Calif., was not injured.
According to the report, the semi was eastbound when Hereden, who was westbound, drifted into the semi's lane of traffic.
"The Freightliner driver saw him coming and headed for the ditch but before he could get out of the way, the car collided with the trailer of the semi," Herzet said.
The car ended up in the ditch but did not overturn.
Herzet said they don't really know what caused the accident and do not believe it was alcohol related.
"I just believe the 80-year-old white male must have fallen asleep or had a medical condition," Herzet said.
