An Augusta police officer was injured in an accident at Santa Fe Lake Rd. and Highway 54 early this morning following a suspect in a possible stolen car out of Oklahoma.
Lt. Tim Follis with the Augusta Department of Safety told the Gazette that the officer made contact at Jumpstart on 7th St. in Augusta, the suspect fled and the officer ensued. Near Santa Fe Lake Rd. and Highway 54, the officer's car spun out struck two telephone poles. The officer was transported to a Wichita hospital. Initially, he was reported to be in critical condition, but Lt. Follis advised that Chief Tyler Brewer, who is currently at the hospital stated that the officer is in stable condition.
In a separate accident, the suspect's vehicle crashed, he left the vehicle on foot and is currently at large.
A press conference will be held later this morning and the Gazette will provide more details.
The name of the injured officer or the identity of the suspect were not available at this time.
