Melda Irene Johnson, 87, of El Dorado, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Lake Point El Dorado. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
She was born on April 26, 1926 in Chelsea, the daughter of Charley and Eunice (Singleton) Welty. She graduated from El Dorado High School and on Feb. 6, 1946 was married to Howard Johnson at the El Dorado Court House. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1989. Melda loved being a mom, taking care of the family; sending birthday cards; playing cards and marble games; reading, playing slot machines; gardening and was a great fan of John Wayne.
Those she leaves include her children and their spouses, Doug and Nancy Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., Marlene and John Starley of Phoenix, Ariz., and Cheryl and Jeff Martin of Kechi; sisters, Shirley Sanders and husband Clem of El Dorado and Dorothy Tillock of Moundridge; grandchildren, Gwen and husband Eric Milligan, Sarah Johnson, Amanda and husband Brad McCamus, and Lyndsy Martin; and great-grandchildren, Reece, Emily, Grant, Caderik, Wyatt and Weston.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister and her husband Carolyn and Bill Bidwell; and great-niece Emily.
