For those who attend the annual Memorial Day Service at Elmwood Cemetery each year, the experience puts the meaning of the holiday in perspective. The event is sponsored by The Augusta VFW Post 6746, Andover American Legion Post 406, American Legion Riders Post 406 Andover, and the Sons of the American Legion Post 406 Andover.
This year's Living Legends were WWII veteran Eldon Laubhan, and Brandon Barnes, who served two tours of duty in Iraq.
The late Robert Shryock was honored as the Deceased Legend.
Tributes were made to the fallen soldiers, as well as POWs and MIAs.
The program ended with an emotional and solemn Passing the Flag with all the veterans in attendance. The veterans passed a folded American flag and saluted one another while the patriotic song, "God Bless the USA" played.
Nathaniel Wheatley played 'Taps' to conclude the ceremony.
