New store set to open Wednesday, June 12th

Augusta's new Walmart store will open for business on Wednesday, June 12. For many residents, the store can't open soon enough.

The grand opening festivities will be held the first day and will include the Augusta High School Band, vendor give-away, and bouncy houses outside for the kids.

The store will sell apparel, electronics and garden items — and a full line of groceries. There will also be a Subway restaurant inside the location. The facility spans 120,000 square feet and will have between 180-190 employees.

Store Manager Don Kendrick reports that a few positions are still available.

"We're looking forward to the opening. I'm happy for Augusta - this store is the perfect size for this community," he said.

Kendrick has been managing the local Walmart for seven weeks and has been with Walmart for 11 years.

The local store is bringing revitalization to the south side of W. 7th St.
