The council has considered doing something to the wall behind the members that makes a rather unsightly backdrop for the council meetings.
Augusta Middle School Art Teacher Johnna Smith received $200 from the governing body Monday night so that she could help the City Council solve a longstanding problem.
For years, the council has considered doing something to the wall behind the members that makes a rather unsightly backdrop for the council meetings.
Smith will work with Deann Triboulet of the Augusta Arts Council and Augusta High School Art Teacher Audra Schelite to lead a summer arts program in which local students will create a mosaic to improve the view for visitors and television viewers.
Smith showed the council examples of what the new mosaic would look like on the west wall of the room.
The council voted unanimously to approve the project and provide $200 to fund almost half of the cost of the mural.
The Mosiac Mural class will be held June 10 - 21, at City Hall for grades 6-12, with a $45 fee. To register, contact 775-2900.
