  • Hide glue has been used for centuries because it cures quickly, creates a strong bond and is reversible. Although it’s preferred for many applications (such as building musical instruments), many people hesitate to use hide glue because it traditionally requires a heated glue pot and constant monitoring. But Club member Wayne Sutter of Temecula, California, offers a suggestion that makes the adhesive accessible to almost everyone. All you need is an empty plastic squeeze bottle and a microwave oven. Pour equal parts of hide glue granules and water into the bottle and heat it in the microwave on a medium power setting for about 30 seconds. Then just shake the bottle, and the glue is ready to use. The bottle will stay warm and the adhesive will remain usable for about 30 minutes. When the glue begins to gel, simply warm it again in the microwave. Brought to you by: American Profile
