Augusta's track and field team had two Orioles qualify for the Class 4A state meet next week by placing in the top four at the 4A Andale meet Friday afternoon.
Kyler Steinkamp took third place in the high jump event by clearing 6 feet, 2 inches with no scratches until 6'4". The other three qualifiers all were from Andale, including Garrison LeRock, a regional champion last year.
Chaydon Carter tied for third place in the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.41 seconds. Tyler Burns of Wichita Trinity won the regional title with a time of 11.15.
Other Orioles who competed include Riley Zerr, who narrowly missed qualifying for State by placing fifth in the 300-m hurdles.
Brandon Forsythe finished the 1600-m run in 5:12. Jake Hall finished in 5:19.
Senior Rebecca Winter competed in the shot put for the last time in her high school career. She had a throw of 29 feet, 7 inches for her best performance of the season.
Of her three races, Bailey Reichardt's best run was in the 400-m run, but she wasn't quite able to qualify for State.
The state meet will be at Cessna Stadium on Wichita State's campus next weekend. Both Steinkamp's and Carter's events will begin early Saturday morning.
