Partners In Education recently received a $4,995 grant from Kansas Gas Service.
The school district had applied for the grant for a studio facility at the new middle school, which will include a tri-caster. They will use it to teach video editing, live broadcast and green screen technology, similar to what the high school and college offers.
"We will give middle school students an introduction to the same thing," said Doug Jensen, USD 490 director of technology.
Currently, the middle school just has a portable green screen, so this will be quite an improvement.
Nancy Johnston, Kansas Gas Service community relations manager, said this grant is in addition to their regular grant requests. This fund is for special public school programs that the schools can't afford in their budgets. Schools can only apply once a year for the grant, which can be up to $5,000.
