Emprise Bank announced today that they will permanently close their branch location at 512 State Street in downtown Augusta. No official closing date has been set, but the bank anticipates it to happen near the end of 2013. Officials at the bank said the decision to close the branch was based on two main factors: low transaction volume compared to Emprise’s two other Augusta locations and a desire to see the large building used more effectively.
“We are committed to serving the Augusta community,” said Thomas Page, Emprise Bank
President. “Our downtown branch is a big building that serves fewer customers than our other two Augusta locations and we believe that the remodeled downtown space can be put to much better use.”
Emprise has already entered into talks with several parties about purchasing the building to make better use of the extensive space available. In conjunction with the closing of the downtown branch, Emprise also has plans to remodel and expand their location at 538 West 7th St.
