  • Celebrate the beginning of Older Americans Months at the seventh annual Spring Fling Senior Resource Fair in El Dorado. With over 120 booths and three locations, this is the largest Butler County event focusing on the services, trends, and opportunities for today's older adult and caregivers. This year's event is May 8, 2013. And this year's theme is "Tame the Wild," so wear your animal prints and learn more about how to navigate the jungle that can be senior services. It's a great way to gather information while having fun.
Admission is free. Booths will be located at the Civic Center (201 E. Central), the Community Building (206 N. Griffith), and the El Dorado Senior Center (210 E. Second). Spring Fling is from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A free shuttle service is always available at all three parking lots to enable everyone to park at one location and take the shuttle to visit the others. The shuttle is wheelchair accessible. And returning this year, four-passenger golf carts will be at the Community Building and Civic Center to offer relief from the long walks to and from your vehicle.
Fair visitors will have a lot to do. A free, wheelchair accessible photo booth will be located at the Civic Center. Door prizes are at every booth along with lots of information and giveaways. There will be three chances to win a free 32" HD TV by signing up at each location. Monterey lunches will be available for six dollars, which includes a Monterey, a drink, and dessert.
Finally, LOTS of free health screenings and activities will be featured at the 4-H Building. Among the screenings and activities participants take advantage of are: blood pressure, diabetic footwear, posture, oxygen saturations, video otoscopic (checking for ear wax buildup), blood glucose, visual field, venous risk in legs, spine, sleep deprivation, food tastings, and glasses adjusted/cleaned repaired. And this is just to name a few!
The Butler County Department on Aging considers Spring Fling sponsors to be a tremendous asset in being able to hold this event each year. This year's sponsors are: SBA Memorial Hospital, Active Aging, PT Plus Physical Therapy, Vintage Place of El Dorado, Cox Communications, Cypress Springs Alzheimer's & Memory Support Residence, Mercy Home Care, Emprise Bank, Lakepoint, Harden Hospice Kansas, AseraCare Hospice, Victoria Falls Assisted Living, Broadway Home Medical, and Hart Home Medical.
