Anyone who wishes to receive district-wide text messages that are sent out can opt in.

Augusta USD 402 launching a new service that will enhance communication by allowing the delivery of important information to patrons via SMS (text) messaging. This service will not replace the existing methods of communication; rather, it will enhance them. The district will only use the service to provide information that is timely and relevant.

The service is provided by SchoolMessenger. Information can be found at

Anyone who wishes to receive district-wide text messages that are sent out can opt in.

To begin to receive this new service, text recipients must indicate their willingness to receive text messages to their phones. The process is simple and only takes a few seconds to complete:

1. Before Wednesday, May 8, simply text any one of the following words to the number 68453: subscribe, optin, or yes.

2. The opt-in is successful if the following reply message is received: You are registered to receive aprox 3 msgs/mo. Txt STOP to quit, HELP for help.

3. Repeat the opt-in process for each wireless number that you wish to include.

On Wednesday, May 8, wireless numbers in the district system that have NOT been “opted in” will receive ONE text message from our system reminding them to “opt in.”

After Wednesday, May 8, only those numbers that have been “opted in” will receive SMS text messages through the SchoolMessenger system. Those who decide to opt in after May 8 can still do so, at any time, by following the instructions above.

Please note, although the district does not charge for this service, it does not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by recipients through their wireless carrier. Text recipients should check with their wireless carrier for possible charges.
