  • The Bluestem Lions baseball team hosted a tough Wichita Independent squad on Friday in Leon.
    Independent left Leon still undefeated at 10-0 and sent the Lions to a 6-4 record.
    Independent chased starter Cody Easterday in the first game to win in five innings 13-0.
    Easterday went only two innings allowing 9 runs, only 5 of which were earned on 7 hits.
    Easterday and Dakota Bullard collected the only hits for the Lions in the first game.
    Chance Gale went an inng of relief with two walks one earned run and a hit.
    Judd Simon went two innings of relief with a strike out a walk, two hits allowing three runs, one of which was earned.
    Independent won with a big first inning and a big seventh inning to beat Bluestem 18-3.
    Independent scored 9 runs in the first but Bluestem fought back with three runs in the third to extend the game.
    Starter Nick Saia went two innings, striking out three, allowing three walks and 7 hits that amounted to 9 runs with only 4 being earned.
    Lane Moran went two innings with a strike out, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs.
    Cooper Minnick went 3 innings striking out 8, but allowed 2 walks and 7 hits for 7 earned runs.
    John Stiger was 2-3 at the dish and scored a run. Minnick went 2-3 with a run scored.
    Easterday was 1-4 with a rbi. Moran was 1-3 and Charles Willhite went 1-2.
